Why We Changed Our Name to Lantern

Our name changed—but our commitment to members didn’t. 

As our programs expanded beyond surgery, we needed a name that captured everything we do. Lantern represents the guidance and light we provide throughout your healthcare journey—from diagnosis to recovery. 

When we launched, SurgeryPlus made sense. But now, our services go further—supporting members through cancer care, infusion therapy and more depending on their employer or fund’s plan. We wanted our name to reflect that evolution. 

What to Expect from Lantern

Your coverage under Lantern depends on your employer or fund’s plan, but may include support for surgery, cancer care and infusion therapy. Since every plan is different, it’s a good idea to check what’s included.

Here’s how Lantern supports members like you: 

• SurgeryPlus is now Lantern. You’ll still get access to top-tier, board-certified surgeons—individually vetted and selected for their outcomes and experience. Our dedicated Care Advocates are here to support you every step of the way, from matching you with the right surgeon to preparing for surgery and recovery. 

• Cancer Care Direct is now Lantern. If you or a family member have been diagnosed with cancer, you can continue to receive 1:1 guidance from an Oncology Nurse Navigator—including treatment reviews, second opinions and help navigating care options. 

• Introducing Infusion Care from Lantern. Members with infusion therapy benefits through their employer or fund can receive specialty drug treatments safely and conveniently—whether at home, at an infusion center or in a hospital setting.  

What is SurgeryPlus/Lantern?

SurgeryPlus, now called Lantern, is a health benefit that helps you get care from top surgeons —usually at a lower cost. When you need surgery, a Care Advocate works with you to find the right provider, set up your appointment and guide you through every step.

Today, Lantern covers several types of specialty care. Some members have coverage for surgery, extra help for cancer care or infusion therapy. What’s covered for you depends on your employer’s plan.
