Employer Direct Healthcare, including SurgeryPlus and Cancer Care Direct, is now Lantern.
Much has changed since we first launched over a decade ago and served just 100,000 members. Today, we support more than 6 million people across hundreds of employers and health plans.
We’re also pleased to introduce our newest product offering, Lantern Infusion Care, and continue our mission of connecting members with excellent specialty care as close to home as possible.
Our New Name and Our Mission
As we’ve grown as a company, we realized that our name and brand needed to evolve with us. In our search for a new name, we wanted something that captured the heart of what we do: guide members to the best care for them, close to home, and at affordable prices. We get members back to a healthier, happier time in their lives.
Guiding our members in the best direction for them is a central tenet of Lantern—it’s at the core of everything we do. For some members, that might mean care at a large national center in a hospital setting. For others, that might mean care at a local ambulatory surgery center or infusion treatments in their homes. By ensuring our members get excellent care in the best place for them, we help both members and their employers save money and can give members more peace of mind about their health.
We’re thrilled to reintroduce ourselves as Lantern and continue lighting the way forward for our members and partners.
Why Change Our Name and Brand?
We’re forging a path forward with a better model for companies and their employees. We wanted to build a brand that would cut through the noise and better capture how we’re transforming the way people navigate and experience healthcare in the U.S.
The name Employer Direct Healthcare also no longer reflects the partnerships we’ve built over the years. While it suited us when our company focused exclusively on contracting directly with employers, the groups we serve have expanded. We needed a name that included all important decision-makers who help connect employees and members with excellent care, including benefit consultants, health plans, and network partners.
We also wanted to consolidate our products under one umbrella that members could quickly identify and associate with accessing high-quality care, whether they need surgery, face a cancer diagnosis, or receive a specialty infusion.
SurgeryPlus Is Now Lantern
While our name is changing, our surgery care program remains the same. Members will continue to get care from individually vetted surgeons who are among the best in their fields. Our team of Care Advocates will still be there to match members with excellent surgeons as close to home as possible and provide support at each step of the member journey.
Cancer Care Direct Is Now Lantern
With our new name, our cancer care program will continue to connect members with the right cancer care for them, at the right place, at the right time. As always, members get 1:1 support from a dedicated Oncology Nurse Navigator on everything from reviewing their treatment plan, to connecting them with a second opinion, to answering questions about medication side effects.
Introducing Infusion Therapy
While only a small portion of the population needs specialty drugs like infusions, they play an outsized role in drug costs, making up 51% of total pharmacy spending. The good news is that costs can be significantly lowered by optimizing where patients receive these treatments. Our new program, Lantern Infusion Care, helps members receive care wherever it’s both safest and most convenient for them, whether that’s at home, at an infusion center or at a hospital.
Introducing Our New Brand Identity
Our new logo resembles a beacon, which starts as a spark and grows brighter as you continue the journey and get closer to a positive outcome. The balanced aspects of our logo reflect how our team balances connecting members with the top-notch care they deserve and providing warm guidance and support when needed. When zoomed in, the curves represent pathways members can follow to get back to the lives they enjoyed before their health challenges began.
Our new brand colors are approachable and make it easy to present information clearly and warmly. The primary tones—cream, espresso and green—were explicitly chosen to look both high-end and inviting, as we offer members concierge service with genuine warmth and care.
We chose coral as our primary accent color, recalling the light and warmth of a beacon guiding members on the journey back to better health. Our additional accent color, pink, is another warm, inviting shade.
We combine these colors with patterns and textures to create the look of frosted glass. The glass texture’s warmth and light are designed to bring happy memories to mind. The nostalgia and familiarity of the glass texture also remind members that there are more of the brighter days they remember from the past ahead.
New Name, Same Trusted Team
We’re excited to reintroduce ourselves as Lantern and broaden our reach to include even more members and provider partners through our new infusion care program. But at our core, we’re still the same dedicated team hundreds of organizations trust to cover more than 6 million lives and guide them on the path back to health. As we enter our next chapter, we’re honored to continue lighting the way to the best care.
