Brevard Public Schools Faced High Costs of Healthcare

Brevard Public Schools (BPS) is one of the largest employers in Brevard, County, Florida. As their population grew, so did the costs of healthcare.

When employees needed surgery, they ended up bearing the burden of larger deductibles and hidden costs. BPS noticed employees were struggling to pay for care or putting it off entirely and they began the search for a solution to help.

How Lantern Helped Brevard Public Schools

BPS partnered with Lantern in 2021 to help control healthcare costs for employees. They liked that Lantern worked with public and academic sectors, including states, municipalities, universities, school districts, employer trusts and private schools.

The board selected a plan design focused on reducing the up-front costs for approximately 6,000 eligible employees and any enrolled dependents. The BPS plan waives deductibles and co-insurance for procedures through Lantern.

The Results of the Partnership

The partnership has helped BPS save millions and has connected hundreds of employees with high-quality care. In the first six months alone, BPS saved over $550,000. Now, in 2025, after years in the partnership, they’ve seen amazing results:

  • $10M in lifetime savings ($38 PEPM savings)
  • 870+ good outcomes
  • 98.3% of members were able to drive for care

“It was incredibly smooth sailing with my Care Advocate checking in on me regularly. Without Lantern, I would have endured a decade of pain. You all have truly transformed my life.”
